  1.            CORNEAL SENSITIVITY

  3. If there is an indication that the 
  4. patient may have a decrease in corneal 
  5. sensitivity then it should be measured.  
  6.  
  7. The common technique is to use a small 
  8. wisp of cotton.  Bring the cotton wisp 
  9. in from the side of the patient and 
  10. lightly touch the cornea to determine 
  11. if there is a blink reflex.
  12.  
  13. More accurate techniques can be used such as the 
  14. Cochet-Bonnet aesthesiometer.
  15.  
  16. Corneal sensitivity varies with age, 
  17. eye color, corneal position, eye 
  18. closure and decreased oxygen.
